How we source and verify our content

Free Online Bible is a reference site about the Bible, so accuracy and transparency matter. This page explains where our text comes from, how it is checked, and how to report a problem.

Scripture

All scripture on this site is the verbatim text of a public-domain translation — the King James Version, World English Bible, American Standard Version, Young's Literal Translation, Webster's Bible or the Darby Translation. Scripture is never machine-generated, paraphrased or altered. Each translation is imported from an established public-domain source and displayed exactly as published.

Commentary

Our commentary is drawn from classic public-domain works by named authors — Matthew Henry, Adam Clarke, John Gill, and Jamieson, Fausset & Brown. Every commentary passage is attributed to its author and work, and links to the full exposition. We do not write our own interpretation of scripture or present anonymous commentary as authoritative.

No invented authors

We publish under the site's own name, exactly as major reference sites do. We do not create fictional authors, credentials or bylines. Where a real person contributes, they are named as themselves. Descriptive text on the site (introductions, topic summaries, help copy) is written to be factual and neutral, and never fabricates a citation, statistic or quotation.

Topics & study aids

Verses gathered by topic are widely-published, well-known selections, and every reference is verified against the hosted scripture text before it appears. Our aim is to point you to scripture and its context — not to substitute our own reading of it.
